T ' ARTHUR A. HAUCK resident of the University An issue of the Prism, like every milestone in education, represents hard work and a vast amount of cooperation. The students who have produced this book deserve our thanks for chronicling another chapter in the history of the University of Maine. The chapter is one that may be remem- bered with no little pride. This year we have been a reunited University, with all our students at Orono, after the passing of the postwar emergency which required The Brunswick Campus for freshman veterans. The three-year operation of the Annex and the successful transition to the normal life of a larger University amounted to a challenge that was met with typical Maine spirit. YVhile providing for veterans their well- earned educational opportunity, we have also built for tomorrow. Future college genera- tions will continue to benefit from use of the new facilities that have become available this year. lfVe know that hard work and cooperation will always be basic requirements in making and keeping the University what we want it to be. The present student body has made a fine contribution, in keeping with the highest aims of education. In a troubled world, the will of youth for learning and doing endures as our great pledge against the future. f
