. . . Students in 1946-47 have helped to wriic an e|K)clial new chapter in the history of the University of Maine. They have lived in, and shared the work of, the transition from war to peace. They have watched the University grow from a prewar enrollment of 2,100 to 4,000. To the Facidty and the Administration, this year— made memorable by the return of men and women from the war- has been rewarding in many ways. The fine spirit of the whole student body, the splendid attitude of the veterans, and the atmosphere of achievement pervading the whole cam]jus have been most appreciated. Looking back on this year, today ' s students will remem- ber some inconveniences and much hard work. Let us hope, however, that all of us will have much more reason to remember the opportunities we have had and the worth of what we liave accomplished. Arthi;r a. Hauck President

Nowhere is this truth more amply evidenced than at the University of Maine. As Assistant to the President, Charles E. Crossland performs duties too ninner- ous to mention. Significant this year has been his outstanding steering of the Union Building Drive. Registrar James A. Gannett is another officer who func- tions in many key operations. See Mr. Gannett, is the solution to a midtitude of student problems. And Percy F. Crane is the man everyone sees on the primary question of Maiiiiac or no. JAMES A.
