presents Whatcha Doin ' Now? The Quadres Society presented in March the musical comedy, Whatcha Doln ' Now? , written by William Jones and Rhoza Walker, members of Quadres. The music and lyrics were written by Don Spencer, who also played the leading role. William Jones and hiaroid Rhodes filled the roles of the male comedy leads. Earnest Finklea and Gladys Bonner as minor leads sang in a particularly pleasing manner. The comedy was a gay affair dealing with an amusing subject in a de- lightfully breezy fashion. The singing and dancing were enthusiastic and gave the feeling of spontaneity. The Cabaret Scene was the best In the show. It was good from the aspect of stage design and appearance and the mod- ernistic dance was the most effective dance In the show, while the music for this dance was catchy to the extreme. The scenery while relatively simple carried out the Idea of the show In an efficient manner. The singing of both the choruses and the leads deserves special mention and praise. The book with clever dialogue and situations fulfilled the Preface In the Play Bill which said, ... a sense of humor can be a valuable asset In many so-called mar- riage problems. Hubert presents Lcc ' ies of the Jury The faculty, this year, offered as their contribution to the cause of drama in general and the Scholar- ship Fund of the U. C. Chapter of Mortar Board, Mystic Thirteen, the amusing comedy, Ladies of the Jury . The large cast was truly impressive in its ingenious portrayal of the varied and exact- ing roles. The lobster (at least a crustacean of some sort) did rather well, although it was boiled. The play was directed by Frank R. Byers, of the English Depart- ment, College of Liberal Arts. His description of the play is more than sufficient. Ladles of the Jury. Uproariously funny — , full of grins, chuckles, and guf- faws from the first to the last curtain . The Green Room presentations by the faculty members are en- joyed by both those of the faculty in the play and the students who are privileged once a year to watch the gods at play . While as yet none of the faculty have been called to Broadway or Holly- wood, another performance such as Ladies of the Jury and ap- pointments to the faculty will be made on the basis of screen tests.

Mortar Board Reception November 2, 1934 The Mortar Board Reception inaugurated a new plan of placing school dances in the hands of University organi- zations thus elinninating ne- cessity for class officers. This dance took the place of the traditional Freshman Recep- tion. The Freshmen were in- troduced to the tunes of Johnny Lewis ' s Orchestra. Sigma Sigma, with all due ceremony, summoned the outstanding Junior and Sen- ior men. Miami Pep Dance Thanksgiving Eve The Miami Pep Dance was held for the first time this year in the University Y.M.C.A. on the eve of the Miami-U. C. game. The dance was organized to fur- nish a place for University students to gather on this date, enjoy themselves, and show their school spirit. The idea met with whole-hearted approval from the students. Ulex Dance December 15, 1934 The Ulex Da nce was held this year in the University Y.M.C.A. As is the cus- tom at this dance the most prominent Freshman woman was to be chosen. Conjecture ran high as to who would receive the honor. Jerry Jacobs, an outstanding Freshman, well merited her new title. Also as a feature of the eve- ning Ulex pledged some of the more promising Sophomore men.
