A taping session at KETS, the educational television station, brought together some of the officials who figured prominently in State College of Arkansas' reorganization plan, which went into effect July l. Snow, president of SCA, Dr. Ben A. Lewis, dean of the Graduate School, Harold D. Eidson, vice-president for business and financial affairs, Dr. Conrad Carroll, dean of the College of Business, and Dr. Orville Rook, dean of the College of Science and Humanities. SCA announces maior reorganization State College of Arkansas announced plans for a maior reorganization of administration and instruc- tion in April, 1969. Administrative affairs were divided into four areas and the school's 21 departments were grouped into four colleges. The plan is designed for effective administra- tion on both a long-range and a short-range basis, SCA President Dr. Silas D. Snow said. lt went into effectJuly l. Heads of the four administrative areas are Dr. A. E. Burdick, vice president for academic and in- structional affairs and dean of the faculty, Harold D. Eidson, vice president for business and financial affairs, Frank Koon, coordinator for student affairs, and Bill R. Pate, coordinator for public affairs and assistant to the president. Deans of the colleges are Dr. Conrad Carroll, dean of the College of Business, Dr. Robert Morrow, dean of the College of Education, Dr. Jefferson Farris, dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts and Sci- ences, and Dr. Orville Rook, dean of the College of Science and Humanities. ' Dr. H. B. Hardy, Jr. became dean of Under- graduate Studies, and Dr. Ben A. Lewis remained dean of the graduate school. The plan was based on recommendations from a report by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Consulting Service which sent two consultants to the College the previous fall to study its programs and organizations. The departments are grouped as follows: College of Business - business and economics. College of Education-counselor education, ed- ucation, early childhood education, psychol09Y, and special education. College of Fine and Applied Arts and Sciences - art, health and physical education, home economics, industrial education, library science, military scl- ence, music, and nursing. College of Science and Humanities - biology, chemistry, English, speech and iournalism, foreign languages, geography, history, political science, and sociol0QYi mathematics: philosophy, and physics.

Although the dean of men's office has some ad- ministrative duties, most of Mr. John Hurley's time is spent working directly with students individually. This includes counseling with men students on topics ranging from traffic tickets and class cutting to serious personal problems. Traffic control also comes under the direction of the dean of men. Placement office, directed by Mr. Charles R. Teeter, is designed to help students and alumni find rewarding employment in a variety of fields, includ- ing business, industry, education and government. The office stresses the need to combine academic planning with career planning, works to achieve this by offering free vocational counseling and maintaining an up-to-date vocational library, provides practical information on current employment trends and re- quirements, and brings students and company repre- sentatives together in iob interviews. Field counseling is done by Mr. Tommy Smith, director of public relations. Visits are made to many schools each year and advice given to hundreds of high school students concerning the opportunities available for them at SCA. Office of Student Financial Aid, directed by Mar- vin Bishop, assists students with their financial prob- lems. Students may receive financial aid from schol- arships, National Defense Student Loans, Educational Opportunity Grants, Nursing Loans and Scholarships, Guaranteed Student Loans, College Work-Study Pro- gram iobs and campus iobs. Law Enforcement Edu- cation Program grants are now available to law en- forcement personnel for degree studies and for similar studies to students preparing for police and corrections careers. Three cafeterias meet the nutritional needs of students and try to develop good basic nutritional habits. College of Business has as its essential purpose the education of young men and women to reach their maximum potential as responsible leaders in private businesses, government service, and nonbusiness organizations. The College offers curricula for maiors leading tothe Bachelor of Science in Education, Bach- elor of Science, and Bachelor of Arts Degrees. College of Education has as its maior function the professional preparation of elementary and sec- ondary teachers, teachers of exceptional children, counselors, speech pathologists, reading specialists, and educational examiners. The College provides professional consultation services to both SCA stu- dents and staff, elementary and secondary schools, and community agencies. The College of Fine and Applied Arts and Sci- ences offers professional education in a number of fields in which the performance of developed skills is basic to the professional competence. The College also makes contributions to the general education program of the institution in such areas as fine arts, health, and physical education. College of Science and Humanities, through the many general courses which it offers, seeks to for- ward education rightly called liberal. Numerous departments provide studies which are pre-profes- sional and professional in character.
