Mrs. Virginia Smith Administrative Secretary Bennie Horton Comptroller Business and Financial Affairs Plan health, physical ed complex With the approval of supplemental appropriations during the special legislative session in March, con- fidence was voiced that SCA could move forward with plans to construct a S2 million gymnasium and health education center to be ready for occupancy by the 1971-72 school year. Dr. Silas D. Snow, president of SCA, said the complex would feature a 6,000 seat gymnasium as well as offices for all the physical education faculty, plus classroom space, and facilities for other related operations. Dr. Snow and other college officials toured sev- eral campuses in other states to examine ideas in building physical education centers, and implemented many of theirfindings. The complex would be located west of SCA's Science Center and north of Bruce Street, on a 20- acre plot donated by the city of Conway a few years ago. Dr. Snow said the center, when completed, would be a thrust for the entire athletic program at SCA. Mr. Harold D. Eidson, Vice President for Busi- ness and Financial Affairs, and his staff are planning facilities needed for the future as SCA expands. The auxiliary enterprises of the College are supervised by personnel from this area. Construction this year included the conversion of Meadors Hall into an ROTC facility, the enlarge- ment of the Post Office area, and the conversion of the first two floors of Doyne Hall into office space for the Nursing, Counseling, and Early Childhood Education Departments. The position of Comptroller was added to the staff. Bennie Horton was named to this position. C. C. Hudson L. P. Crafton R. L. Pruitt Assistant Business Manager Accountant Purchasing Agent

W. H. Osborne, director of admissions and re- search reported that improved admission procedures enabled the college to admit more students than ever before in its history. Pre-registration of beginning students was very smooth, even though a record num- ber of students enrolled. Experience gained from the past year will be used as the basis for automatic scheduling of all stu- dents - a program which the College hopes to institute within the near future. Southwest Staff Development Center in Early Childhood Education is underway. Hopefully, this program will produce highly trained personnel who can manage early childhood programs throughout the state. Also, the School of Health Sciences and Profes- sions was established. This new program should make a significant contribution to the reduction of the man- power shortage in health professions. Many new pro- grams are being planned. Donald Evatt, data processing supervisor, is in charge of the SCA computer. The computer is used to get out the College's 2l,000 to 22,000 grades quickly and accurately. It is also used to prepare payrolls for students, faculty, and staff, work up statistical reports for academic and business purposes, record enrollment, print transcript labels, score tests, and other chores. Jerry Lancaster is data processing programmer. Donald Evatt, data processing supervisor, feeds information into the SCA computer. W..
