Mrs. Maxine Crafton Administrative Secretary Mrs. Ruby Chick Administrative Secretary AJ - Academic and Instructional Affairs New schedule approved for 1970-71 SCA is changing the opening and closing dates for its fall and spring semesters starting with 1970 - 71 school year. The new plan, approved by the Board of Trustees in March, is designed to give students longer vacation periods between terms and is ex- pected to increase the efficiency of teachers and staff in making the transition from one semester to another. Under the plan, fall semester classes will start August 31 and end December 22, and spring semester classes will begin January 13 and end May 14. SCA's two five week summer terms will not be affected. The plan means that students no longer will have to return to the college after the long Christmas hol- idays to take fall term final examinations. Instead, they will take the tests iust before Christmas and then begin a three-week between-semester vacation. Easter recess will also be increased to nine days. Mr. Charles Downs, registrar, and his staff facil- itate registration, advise students throughout their college career, and work with the faculty and staff in assisting students to achieve their desired goals as they progress toward graduation. SCA student enrollment reached a record 4,620 in September, exceeding the previous high of 4,375 in the fall of 1968. In an effort to make registration easier and faster, business office services were moved to the Student Center Ballroom so that all the enroll- ment procedure could be taken care of in one area. Students enrolled in classes, turned in cards, and paid fees in the Ballroom. This cut down on the waiting and long lines. Austin Glenn, EdD S. D. White, MEd Charles F. Downs, MS Assistant to the Vice President Diploma of Advanced Studies Registrar for Academic, Instructional Affairs Director of Field Services

Under the leadership of Dr. Robert O. Morrow, the College of Education has focused upon change. In each of the four departments, new programs are being developed which are aimed at meeting needs of individuals within a complex society. The College is actively working with other colleges and universities in consortium arrangements, whereby training is divided among the colleges. The College also takes a leadership role in innovative programs and works actively with State and Federal divisions in imple- menting educational change. ' The establishment of a School of Health Sciences has been the primary development within the College J. Conrad Carroll, Ph.D. Dean, College of Business Administration Robert O. W. H. Osborne, director of admissions and re- search reported that improved admission procedures enabled the college to admit more students than ever before in its history. Pre-registration of beginning students was very smooth, even though a record num- ber of students enrolled. Experience gained from the past year will be used as the basis for automatic scheduling of all stu- dents - a program which the College hopes to institute within the near future. Southwest Staff Development Center in Early Childhood Education is underway. Hopefully, this program will produce highly trained personnel who can manage early childhood programs throughout the state. Also, the School of Health Sciences and Profes- sions was established. This new program should make a significant contribution to the reduction of the man- power shortage in health professions. Many new pro- grams are being planned. Donald Evatt, data processing supervisor, is in charge of the SCA computer. The computer is used to get out the College's 2l,000 to 22,000 grades quickly and accurately. It is also used to prepare payrolls for students, faculty, and staff, work up statistical reports for academic and business purposes, record enrollment, print transcript labels, score tests, and other chores. Jerry Lancaster is data processing programmer. Donald Evatt, data processing supervisor, feeds information into the SCA computer. W..
