Tommy Smith, MSE Marvin Bishop, MA Dean Duncan, MSJ Director of Public Relations Student Aid Supervisor News Media Specialist College Services Service personnel Field counseling is done by Mr. Tommy Smith, director of public relations. Visits are made to many schools each year and advice given to hundreds of high school students concerning the opportunities available for them at SCA. Financial aid office, directed by Mr. Marvin Bishop, assists students with their financial prob- lems. Students may receive financial aid from scholarships, National Defense Student Loans, Edu- cational Opportunity Grants, Nursing Loans and Grants, Guaranteed Student Loans, and College Work-Study Program and campus jobs. News media specialist, Mr. Dean Duncan in- forms the public of SCA activities. New releases go to all media including newspapers, radio tele- vision, and professional journals. Mr. Charles Downs, registrar, and his staff facilitate registration, advise students throughout their college career, and work with the faculty and HS s1st students staff in assisting students to achieve their desired goals as they progress toward graduation. Placement office directed by Mr. Bill Pate is available to all students desiring vocational coun- seling and information in order to more fully inte- grate academic planning and career planning. Vocational Library and daily contact by Placement office personnel with business, government and edu- cational institutions present the student with current and practical information of employment trends and requirements. Field Services directed by Mr. S. D. White maintains an educational service through corre- spondence and extension to provide the partially qualified student an opportunity to make up defi- ciencies. Deans a ' - Deans handle housing, security,AWS Dean of Students Dr. James Sylar assists student organizations in developing and maintaining worthwhile and official services to the organizations and to the campus in general. His office serves all students through its program of guidance and coun- seling on both individual and group bases, and keeps a calendar of all social, cultural, and athletic events. Public Appearances, of which he is chairman, presented El Trio Romantico, National Players Presentation of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Woodwind Quin- tet, Danish Gym Team and Lily gg Peter, poet. Mr. Frank Koon, Dean of Men, supervises and counsels men stu- dents. He is concerned with the student's adherence to the stand- ards of student conduct. He directs the college housing program. Residence halls, mobile homes and apartment contracts, room assignments, supervision of head residents, and questions con- cerning housing are handled in his office. Campus traffic and security come under his supervision. Miss Dorothy Long, Dean of Women, emphasizes highlights of her office as the organizing and the functioning of the Association of Women Students, working with the SCA Panhellenic Council, and the opening of the new residence Richard King Miss Dorothy Long, MA for women. Special Services Student Center, health, security aid Alumni office, three cafeterias, Student Center, bookstore, physical plant, health, and security pro- vide special services for SCA students, faculty, staff, and guests. SCA Alumni Office has over 9,000 graduates whose names and addresses are on file and who receive the Alumni Bulletin three times a year. Fifty Alumni in the Washington D. C. area and their husbands and wives had a dinner meeting where Dr. and Mrs. Silas Snow and Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Minton reported on the college. Each April a dinner meeting of the Alumni of the Twenties is held. Three cafeterias meet the need of the relation- ship between nutrition and physical and intellectual growth. Food services try to develop good basic nutritional habits. Student Center was host to 335 scheduled meet- ings this year including Second Annual Reading Conference, Campa, Yearbook and Student Council state meetings. Rush activities and Greek formals and blood drive are held in the Center. The Center has new draperies through out and new furniture for the downstairs. ' A . .,, ...., M Z .
