Burdick, dean of the college, was instrumental in establishing a counseling center within the Psychology department this year and he assisted the President and department chairmen in increasing the number of faculty members to 180. Dean Burdick was a recipient of the President's awards last spring for faculty members making out- standing contributions to the college. Knowing that the students on campus represent the major college responsibility and challenge, Dr. Burdick tries to help students understand what is expected of them by the college. As a staff officer Dr. Burdick is an adviser to the President in matters concerning the academic program, and is responsible for the preparation of the necessary institutional studies. As a line officer, the Dean has delegated responsibilities involving decisions based upon institutional policy. Faculty recruitment, orientation, encourage- ment, evaluation, conditions of service, and extra- class service are all matters of importance to the Dean. Making a continuing effort to appraise the feasibility of the college purposes and the need for change, Dr. Burdick is sensitive to the relevance of the institution's educational plans to students' needs.
