Governor, Board of Trustees Board of Trustees honors President, three Professors State College of Arkansas's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name the new fine arts building the Silas D. Snow Fine Arts Center in honor of President Snow. The members also named the new residence halls and cafeteria. Carmichael Hall for women was named in honor of Dr. Maude Carmich- ael, a former department chairman at SCA. Hughes, a residence for men, was named for Mr. O. L. Hughes, former chairman, presently professor in mathematics. Elizabeth L. Christian Cafeteria was titled for the late Miss Elizabeth Christian, a former instructor and dietitian. The Trustees are appointed by the Governor and approved by the Arkansas Senate to serve seven-year terms. They are legally authorized to make the final decisions determining the college's general policies. As chief executive, the President of the College is charged with the re- sponsibility of executing the policies and plans of the Board. Two of SCA's Trustees - Louie H. Polk, chairman, and Mrs. Rufus W. Morgan Jr., secretary - are now in their third terms. Three others - Dr. John W. Sneed Jr., J. C. Mitchell and C. W. Harper - are in their second terms. President Dr. now confers record 632 degrees President Silas D. Snow, a graduate of SCA himself, presented 632 degrees in 1968, a record number. The college had its biggest graduation ever May 26 when it conferred 323 degrees. August 9 the college awarded another 309 degrees, a new high for summer. This included 124 masters' degrees, also a record. A native of Conway, Dr. Snow has served as president of State College of Arkansas sixteen years. He has a master's degree from George Peabody College and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Hendrix College. Beginning with his welcoming address to fresh- men, President Snow always encourages students to become a part of the college community. Dr. um! Mrs. Silas IJ.
