MARCH 4, 1926
My dear Editor,
You would be fortunate to have served so noble a class as 1926 either by
recording her great past or by hinting at her undoubtedly greater future, but
they have put upon you the double task of chronicler and sibyl and named the
terms. The leaves to which you entrust the future must he like a citadel wherein
are kept safe the joy, the distinction, and the friendliness of college life. Such
a task, and you, poor young chronicler, with no experience in setting question-
naires! Now you know how great is the honor of office, and yet, there is a con-
sideration to hearten you. If ever that citadel should threaten to vanish, as did
Is of old, and some classmate of gypsy heart, though he may have caught a
glimpse of a scholar's life, "turn'd once to watch," he would be certain to see
the citadel only in " the line of festal light," and in this chronicle would find
joy and distinction and friendliness alive again, for all else vanishes very quickly.
So then, even though you have only had two courses in psychology, and I'm
doubtful if you know the ,laws of prophecy, I know that the success I wish you
will be yours.
