spring I i love her completely, seeing her makes an intense, dizzying feeling travel right up through me till it reaches my mind and seems to con- vert the whole of me into a living spirit, capable of total aware- ness and understanding, when i ' m with her, i am complete, there is nothing more, we are a world in ourselves, and i feel this overwhelming desire to protect her — this precious being who is mine. 4

winter i TT- TWr ' rJWiPJ W- become more involved? sure- why not? as it is, i spend three hours a night on german alone- doing nothing but memorizing, and just how is memorizing german going to make me an ' educated man? ' i know damn well if i don ' t spend those three hours on german, i ' U never get anything but a ' c ' well, that isn ' t good enough, what a rat race, nothing but grades — for the next four years, maybe after that i can start learning something — maybe.

autumn ii i do respect them, i love them. i want them to understand why i feel this way. just because i disagree with them doesn ' t mean i ' m showing disrespect or don ' t want their opinions, i want to tell them how i am reacting and feeling — things that i am enjoying and experiences that i have had. but it ' s so baffling, i start out and they try so hard to be understanding, but then i sense that there is a confusion or a void behind this show of interest, and they seem sad, maybe even frightened, that they don ' t sense what i ' m trying to say.
