i ' m happy with myself, i don ' t mean self satisfied or resigned to the inevitable, but i guess i mean wilhng to accept ' me. ' i never thought i ' d feel that, i can ' t stand people who are egotistical, maybe it seems i ' m being that way, but i ' m not. for years i wanted to remake myself — become better, stamp out the undesirable, impress everyone, including myself, now i guess i ' m more willing to go along with myself and work from there. spring III J

winter iii ' i ' m sure i ' ve been exjxised to the sai thought a hundred times before, but it ' s never sunk in. then, there it is — right on the page and inescapable, it ' s nor that my way of looking at it was necessarily wrong — more like incomplete, but i wonder how many of my other ideas are incomplete, everything seems so indefinite. 10

I I autumn IV a {person unique in the encirc history of the world — never again to be duphcated? i wonder. l(X)k around campus, what makes me unique — grades, sox, a woman, major, personality, car .- why should i be unique? what difference docs it make.- sure i want to make a contribution — but why.- to boost my ego. ' ' or to put down a mark somewhere that at least someone will remember, i don ' t know, does anyone care. ' ' winter iv i love her. she makes me complete, alive — and sensitive to what ' s outside myself, it ' s an unbelievable paradox, when we ' re talking — or even just sitting together — i seem to appre- ciate and understand myself, yet i feel less focused on myself than ever before, she seems to sense so fully what i am feeling — and makes me want to discover, i feel as though we are exploring the universe together — and everything is so vivid, so real, and i want to go on searching forever. 12
