The President’s Medal is conferred upon the graduating senior who has maintained the highest record over the four years of his undergraduate course. For 1952. the Medal was awarded to James Robb Grover. a graduate in chemistry. Faculty Medals are awarded to students in the sophomore and junior classes who have made the best scholastic records in their classes during their freshman-sophomore, and freshman-sopho- more-junior college years, respectively. Recipi- ents of Faculty Medals in the junior class were Margaret Rue Rough, sociology major, and Ernest Christian Rogge, who is majoring in engi- neering. The distinction of summa cum laude signifies a minimum grade-point average of 3.9. rnagna cum laude an average of 3.6, and cum laude an average of 3.35. The honor summa cum laude is awarded only to students who have completed four full years at the University of Washington, while rnagna cum laude and cum laude are presented to those who have completed not less than ninety hours at this institution, together with a record of distinction at institutions previously attended. In computing hon- ors. and “A” carries four grade points, “B” three, “0. two, and ‘ D“ one. In addition, the I niversity of Washington recog- nizes excellence in scholarship by the issuance of scholarship lists at the close of each quarter, by the award of Certificates of High Scholarship and Faculty Medals at the President's Convocation in the autumn, and by the bestowal of honors and the President's Medal at Commencement in June. medalists JUNIOR FACULTY MEDALISTS SOPIIOMORF. Margaret Hae Itaugh was awarded the Junior Faculty Medal at the President’» Convocation. Peggy i» also AWS Recording Secretary, AROTC Sponsor, and a member of W-Key. Now a junior in prelaw, Zorn Shively received the Faculty Medal at the end of his sophomore year. Zorn U also a member of Arnold Air Society on campus. 31
