Below: Bruce An- derson, broadjumper who was one of the standout performers for the frosh last spring. FROSH TRACK Perhaps the shortest frosh track season in history was last spring when the Husky year- ling cinder artists engaged in only one meet. The lone engagement was with Bellingham Normal and the frosh won by a comfortable margin. Outstanding frosh included Art Taylor, sprinter from Garfield; Harley O ' Neill, quar- ter miler from Broadway ; Jean Wood, miler from Lincoln in Tacoma ; Harry Hubbard, half miler from Lincoln in Seattle, and Bruce Anderson, broadjumper. Frosh footballers were also prominent on the track roster. Included in this list were Tom Ullman, Dean McAdams, and Bob McKoewn. Dick Montgomery edges out Curt Ledford in the relay. 198

VARSITY BASEBALL i A.« K S ■• HEAD COACH DORSETT V. " TUBBY " GRAVES Four triumphs in sixteen conference starts proved a very meagre repast for Husky fans, as the 1938 baseball team struggled its way through a disappointing season. As the campaign opened, hopes were high that Coach Tubby Graves ' men would finish near the top in the quest for the elusive conference bunting, but as succeeding games rolled by, the Huskies dropped lower and lower and season ' s end found them in the cellar. After a brace of practice games, the horsehiders opened their season at home against the Idaho Vandals by splitting a double bill. Warren Sierer, the Huskies ' only successful hurler, tossed the win. Buck Bailey and his WSC team next moved to town for a series. 199
