Engineer ' s Informal The " third alarm " informal, given Friday evening, January 27, by Engineers at the Trianon ballroom, made publicity headlines. Its mock fire engine and fire bug were between- half entertainment at a basketball game. Its sign above the tower of the new social science building set a new " high " in campus stunts. Outstand- ing intermission stunt at the dance was the awarding of a shorts and bandana outfit to the Engineer ' s " Summer Girl, " Beverly (it ' s a boy) Hodges. it the dance. Captain Sanislo of the fire department gives information on how to ring in a " Third alarm. " Committee members, Wes Faurot, Roy Crawford, general chairman, and Norman Dahl. hold a pre-dance conference. From the balcony, one engineer had companionship as he played the spotlight on dancers. Tolo Last year ' s Tolo dance set record for 1938 as the largest college dance in the entire U. S. A. This year ' s dance topped that record by the at- tendance of more than a thousand couples. Lucky men dined, danced, smoked and had a full evening ' s en- tertainment all paid for by their girl friends. «lt. Cadet Ball committee chairmen gather jor a conjerence with their dates. Presentation of a ticket to the Cadet Ball to the Covernor oj the state preceded the dance. Cadet Ball The Cadet Ball was held in the Span- ish ballroom of the Olympic hotel, Friday evening, April 14. Under " American " flags, with the " Pre- paredness " program of the theme, committee chairmen worked out a dance that promised and finished as a complete success. Maneuvers under the Victory arch. with sandhuKs and a sham battle were featured as publicity stunts for the dance. Dates with men in uniform were the order of the evening. 140
