A HUGE RALLY, a songfest, campus movies and a mixer made Freshman Week one of the largest yet held on the campus. Defying a four-year-old jinx on frosh-sponsored activities, the freshman class this year held an all- university dance at the Trianon Ballroom on January 29. A freshman " mystery " woman, whose iden- tity was not disclosed till the night of the dance, was honor guest of the evening. Jean Fisher, Kappa Kappa Gamma, was chosen for this honor. Gil Evans ' swing band provided the music in partnership with Center Case and his orchestra. § FROSH DANCE COMMITTEE: Co-Chairmen— Dale Gaeth . Gib Lone. Publicity— Chuck Larrowe. TWO HUNDRED GOATEE aspirants entered the whisker-growing competition and Chuck Adams and Bob Scott emerged victorious. Other winners were Don McCann, Martin Petrlch, Jr., Frank Por- teo, Russell Stocklon, Perry Love, Dennis Piper, Shirl Wilson, Bill Waldo, John Eitel, Len Amcll, and Bob Dent. John Evans was chairman of the chin-whiskers. A new Idea In campus fun was the Sophomore Carnival In the pavilion on May 21 with a merry- go-round and side-shows put up by the organized houses. Paper money bought entrance to side-shows and peanuts and popcorn sold by the sophs. Art Batemon chalrmaned the successful affair. Jane Patten, Ralph Baldwin, Barbara McHardle, Roy Blackstock, Neil Christensen, Larry Mcintosh, Dick Warren, Otis Lamson, Jean McLeod, Mary Jane Johnson, Sue Allen, and Sarah Curd were com- mittee chairmen. 74 !«•■
