The Joy of Intramurals Because victory meant more to team members who actually contributed to a win than it did to spectators sitting in the stands, intramurals helped players to enjoy the satisfaction of being winners. Sororities and fraternities put special emphasis on competing in sports. Some Greeks even had A and B teams. Excitement was high as they battled to see who really had the best team. Some team names like Tough As Nails sounded like winners. Large crowds gathered to watch Greeks and independents compete in football and softball. Students also competed in basket- ball, bowling, table tennis and a variety of other sports. The only rewards for winning were personal satisfac- tion and a paragraph on the Division of Recreational Sports page of the Texan. Judging from the large turn- outs for the sports, no other incentive was necessary. Killer Dolphins and Syndicate IV play water polo at Gregory Gym pool. Alpha Epsilon Phi vs. Kappa Alpha Theta play in a friendly game of women ' s intramural football at freshman field Intramurals 173
