These words shone on our faces one beautiful Q l i September morning four long years ago when we entered State Teachers ll 0 J sal e nd College, which we now call Alma llilater. VVe were greeted with a glad welcome by those who were to take us, mould us, and make us. That morning we beheld a rainbow in the sky and started our search, not for the pot of gold, but for the pot of knowledge. The first year united our class with a kindred spirit, so that we have traveled, with the confidence of each other, onward toward the ultimate goal. Vacation passed and the day dawned for us to return to this institution, not as Freshmen, but as Sophomores. Our work this year became more serious. Vve were now able to get a keener insight into the future and see the significance and the necessity for a college education. At the end of the half-way mark in our college career came vacation, but pleasant memories of our two years lingered with us. The following autumn we returned to the same beautiful campus "Neath the Vi-7hispering Pines" to begin the second half of this serious task which we had under- taken. As a class we have not only engaged in our studies but also participated in the religious, social, and athletic activities of the college. In September, IQ28, we came to S. T. C. as 'fdignified seniors." This year our class enrolled sixty-eight members, as great men and women as S. T. C. has ever known. Nlany of our campus organizations are led by seniors and we have been prominently represented among the football heroes. The senior class of '29 here pays tribute to our football classmen, S. A. tliillj Brassfield, F. E. fTinyD Davis, Robert Lee VVoods and O. A. Nlclinight. VVe are also devoted to V. S. Jackson, jr., because of his previous services in athletics. He was unable to play football this year on ac- count of the fact that he was injured in a baseball game last year, however, he was elected football manager. VVe are happy to be nearing the goal which will leave us prepared to enter the held of experience. Now, as we go out of these glory-enshrined halls, we can turn a retro- spective eye on the past four years and hope that the future will be as pleasant, as happy, and as inspiring. hlay the bonds and ties of friendship never break, and may our united effort for a "Greater State Teachers College" never fail. HACKNISY Quarierbark HAITIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI Age 22 Weight 160 Captain "Nonie," playing his third year for the Yellow jackets, is one of the best athletes S. T. C. has ever had. He was one of those un- fortunates who had to retire because of major injuries. He has worked hard on the gridiron, and next year we expect him to play a big part in producing the best team S. T. C. has ever had. H. MCMAI-IoN Center EATONVILLE, MISSISSIPPI Age 23 VVeight I7o Homer, captain-elect, is one of the real foot- ball players around whom Coach Saunders built his team. "Mc's" hard tackling on the defense and ability to open holes on the offense stamps him as a star par excellence. This is his third year of brilliant playing for old S. T. C., and much is expected of him next year. 4.,. 'lr 'iff ,LI 51,2-lk A ZW, . x . Il., ,. ',.:N. -i, W I .-l-:"?Ef4 A -it ga, u. .., S.. Tug. Q4 .- ' e MJ- ' ,vp .Hilm- N. s., ffl av. :L 'VP' 41. X. BILBO Halfback HAITIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI Age I9 Weight ISO Although Billy was nominated for "Handsom- est Boy," he certainly can absorb some shocks. Playing consistent ball the entire season, he was known as the toughest man in the backfield. G. J. BISHOP Fullback HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI Age I9 Weight 185 Jack, the big boy of the backfield, was crowded out this season by more experienced men. Bishop Showed up well when he played, and we are expecting great things of him next year. S. A. BRASFIELD End HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI Age I9 VVeight 175 Bill was a mainstay in the Teachers' offense, and constantly snatched passes out of the air for gains. To make a long Story short, he is a re- ceiver with no superiors and very few equals. His graduation will leave a gap which will be hard to fill. 104 F. E. D.-WIS Tzzfklv II.txMII.'I'0N, MISSISSIPPI Age 24 XVeight :or "'l'iny" has been :I tower of strength iII the Yellow jackets' line for four years, and his all- round good play stood Ollt iII every game. It was a COIHITIOII OCCLIITCIICE to see "'l'iny" break through the opponents' line and throw them for losses. It is with deepest regret that S. T. C. bids fare- well to her "best all-round athlete of 'z9." J. NV. DAVIS Ilalfbarle DEI-:AI.B, MISSISSIPPI Age 21 XVeight 160 S. T. C. will have no trouble finding quarter- backs next year. "Peck," who previously played end, was shifted to the backlield this year, and developed into a passer, runner, and field general de luxe. His passing was especially brilliant ill the Southwestern game. Great things are ex- pected of "Peck" next year. 1. H. CHRESTMAN Guard CALHOUN CITY, MISSISSIPPI Age 26 VVeight I6O Chrestman, in his first year out, has made a fine showing on the varsity. He made up for the lack of experience by hard fighting: and many times the opposing backs rushed him only to be nailed in their tracks. 'r I ffl , '-t :Yr wi". Ive' .. If, , 6 .. He has three years of ball to his credit, and his place will be hard to fill. P. P. FLANAGAN Guard DEKALB, MISSISSIPPI Age zo Weight 165 VVith more Scrap than ability, and yet with more ability than the average player, P. P. was one of the most valuable men in the line. This was Flanagan'S third year as a regular, and he will be back next season. A. B. FLEMING Guard CRANDALL, MISSISSIPPI Age 23 VVeight 162 The will is there, the ability is there, the man is thereg experience only is lacking. "Red's pow- er is hard to over-estimate. He will be needed next year. 106 VV. C. Ci.-XRDNER Ilalfbarlc YVllliIil.ER, MISSISSIPPI Age 21 XVeight I40 Clarence saw quite u bit of service as half and quarterback this season, and will put in strong bid next year for a regular bertlI in the back- lield. He was oIIe of the Heetest backs to appear in South Mississippi this season. XVe will wel- come Gardner in next year's eleven. T. A. JACKSON Fullback MACON, MISSISSIPPI Age I9 VVeight 154 "Tom" is one of these steady men who is always playing the game. Tom entered the Mississippi College game when the big Choctaws began plunging over the injured Yellow jackets -and then the plunging ceased. His hard tack- ling, blocking, and determined scrapping won for him a big place in the hearts of the football fans. 0. A. NICKNIGHT End RINGOLD, IOLIISIANA Age 2I VVeight 170 "Mac" has played his last football game for S. T. C. He came here without previous experi- ence in the game, and did not go out his first year. He put up three years of honest endeavor, never rising to heights of stardom, but always consistent. IO7 'lf J, A F. A. MCLENDON Halfback QUITMAN, MISSISSIPPI Age 21 Weight 170 Frank, a former "Choctaw,l' came to us this year and won a berth early in the season, due to his ability in the backfield. He is a tireless worker and conscientious in his duties. We can rest assured that with Frank's dependable foot- ball ability he will be one of the brightest lights of the team for the next two years. L. D. MEGEHEE End PICAYUNE, MISSISSIPPI Age 21 Weight 168 Megehee, a long, lanky boy that blew in from Picayune, punts with an average of fifty yards, and throws passes that usually find a resting place in the arms of his teammates. An end that in many cases handles not only the oppos- ing interference, but also the mall with the ball. A bundle of bones and the material mixed in that coaches like to get, and we thank our lucky stars that we have him for two more years. R. L. WOODS Halfback PHOENIX, MISSISSIPPI Age 22, Weight 150 "Bob," after playing two years at end, was shifted to halfback. He is fast, tricky, and picks his holes, gains ground consistently, and is hard to stop. Bob has played his last game for the "Teachers," and will certainly be missed when the roll is called next year. 108 Basketball Squad XY. B. SALNIIIQRS . V J - J - S. B. F -I -. S.
