McCleskey and S. C. Hall, who constitute the faculty advisory council for the club. Ten students who had shown an outstanding interest in international ques- tions were chosen to form a nucleus for the club. Then other students were elected to membership until the number reached forty, which is the maximum allowed. These students were also selected for their interest in world affairs. The club has a regular meeting on the First Monday of each month, at which a program on some question of international importance is ably rendered by the members. The club also gives programs at chapel exercises, presenting speakers of na- tional and international note. Both members of the club and visitors manifest great interest in all the programs. The World Affairs Club is under the direction of the Institute of International Education, which is financed through the generosity ofthe late Andrew Carnegie. The Institute is very helpful to local clubs, in sending suggestions and ma- terial for programs. It also sends speakers of note from time to time to speak on some topic of world-wide interest. The State Teachers College is very much gratified over the fact that it was the first college in Mississippi to organize this kind of club. It feels that this club will mean much to the student body in raising its standard ofliterary attain- ment and of broadening its horizon. The officers for the year are: President, Ruth Mullins, Vice President, Joe Cook, Jr., Secretary, Annie Kate Hollingsworth, Corresponding Secretary, Ira L. Ashburn. 1 I r 1 A if I I ii i If l nw W ,i 1. l lf, I li If is I. ,Q gl ,ll M 4 I I 1 h l n i f .4 ei .. '3 xl 1 FJ' I 'il W 4 X I .!. I N w w 1 X Y 1 w ,J P ly. Y , 4 gn, N K 9: ,. So great were his contribu- tions to the world that all clown through the ages men have followed his teaching, some knowingly and others accepting and using his contribution without questioning its source. In the year nineteen hundred and twelve, just after the open- ing of school, Platonianism was solidified and given a new im- petus through the organization of the Platonian Literary Society. Men who had been guided unto Platonian philosophy came to- gether in the society and others soon followed. The organization has from the first of its history been representative of the better side of College life. The organization has a dual purpose. It attempts to aid its members in giving a detailed and systematic study to the beauty of the old type ofliterary scholar, and at the same time attempts to train its members in present day ethics, oratory, debate, leadership and executive ability in such ways as would suit them for places of executive responsibility. The organization offers advancement to two types of men, those entirely without training are given training and those who have already been trained are given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability. However, the organization has but one goal for all of its members to reach-complete self-development. Platonians are proud of their achievements. The twelve years in which the organization has been in operation have brought many laurels to its members while in school. HBUTH the laurels that the Platonians are most proud of are those laurels that have fallen upon their members out in the world. Platonians have made good all the way from positions of ordinary responsibili- ties to places in the halls of congress. .-,lv N.- K r V 'I I ,W i H-1! 1 w F 4 I 'I u I I IS?
