Established by an act of the South Dakota Legislature in 1 90 1 , the first law classe s met In Old Main until the present law building was erected in 1908. Then in 1 949 the South Dakota Legislature appro- priated $200,000 for the erection of a separate law library to adjoin the first building. The weight of the books in the library, located on the second floor of the original building, weakened the foundations, making the new library a necessity. The library was named McKusick Law Library in honor of Dean McKusick who had so faith- fully devoted his efforts to the advancement of legal education. The same Legisla- ture also appropriated $1 10,- 000 for the remodeling of the Law Building. The aim of the Law school is to give a thorough education in fundamental principles, thus enabling the students to engage in the practice of law in this or any other state. The School of Law is a member of the Association of Amer- ican Law Schools and has been approved by the Amer- ican Bar Association. The School of Law rests in silence after the day ' s trials.
