Although the Varsity Football Team fell somewhat short of expectations, all was not lost. The Eighth Annual Charity Bowl Game, witnessed October 23, 1981, was a hard-fought battle from which the Dons emerged victorious. The early part of the game saw strong defense on both sides. Uni was able to stop several St. Augustine drives, yet could not progress against their defensive unit. In the fourth quarter, Uni put together a determined drive three minutes from the final gun. Marching downfield all the way to the two yard line, the Dons put their field goal unit to work. The winning score came with twenty-one seconds left in the game as Ricky Martinez kicked the ball and split the uprights from nineteen yards out to give Uni the win, 3-0. Uni's shutout of the Saints marked the third straight year the Dons have been able to prevent their traditional rivals from scoring. The Saints have failed to put points on the board in five of the last six encounters, allowing the Dons to amass a record of one Charity Bowl lost, seven won. was www 20 Charity Bowl - w.i. iPx 'iQt
