StricKLAnD, Marte PEACHEE, ANNE JONES, GORDON CONKLIN, Mary Frances BETHEL THE WEB The 1946 Wes endeavored to give a true picture of the college year which has been one of the most un- usual in the history of the University. Just a week be- fore the engraver’s deadline, the Board of Publications decided to include in the annual T. C. Williams Law School and the four hundred Richmond College second semester students. [his meant more work, but the edi- torial staff knuckled down and did their best to get the annual out before the close of school. Congratulations go to the business staff. They started soliciting in September and had at that time a goal of $1,000. Never before has the business staff of Ane WEB been so successful. Hunter Martin who was appointed T. C. Williams Law School editor in February did a grand job of or- ganizing the law school section. The eal wants to thank Mr. Ford for his invaluable suggestions on page arrangements, Mr. Massie for his personal interest in the annual, and Mr. Frank Dementi for the extra time he spent on our group pictures. (Below): Roy Wyatt, Peccy Harris, THOMAS FLETCHER The Messenger The Messenger this year has tried to reflect through literary contributions the ch nanging elements in student lite on the postwar campus. A large percentage of the material printed was written by veterans who wished to share the harvest of their wide and rich experiences. The editorial staff found extreme gratification in the cooperation and spirit of helpfulness shown by the boys returning to the campus for the second semester and a willingness to work which sometimes surpassed talent. (Above ): Dottie ANN FisHBERG, ANN YOUNG, JACQUELINE BARNES, VIRGINIA WAGSTAFF This year the publication was increased to four issues with a larger number of pages in the final issue than it has had in several years. Interest in literary creativeness was stimulated by the Mortar Board prize for the year's best ‘article, a limerick contest won by Leonard Segal, and a [10] short story contest in which Langley Wood topped a wide number of entries. Popular features of the 1946 Messenger included an ac- count of life in a German prison camp by Bill Mizell, poetry by Peggy Harris, and humor from the versatile pen of Louis Rubin.

The year began with no editor-in-chief; and after a few appointments and resignations, Ralph Shotwell received the position with Dorothy Ann Fishberg to head the Westh nampton College staff. The campus was almost depleted at times of experienced writers, and for this reason the work and responsibility fell upon the few. The staft codperated with the campus O.D.K. circle [12] in the publication of an eight-page issue at the begin- ning of the second semester, with the aim of thoroughly orienting the new men in the history, ideals, and opet- ation of the University of Richmond and its many or- ganizations, Yes, the going was tough, the work was great, the “laborers few,” the hours long, and the headaches many, but with the patience and codperation of the entire stu- dent body, your staff continued publications.
