Chancellor Hardin Directs NU Modernization Project Through the leadership of Chancellor Clifford M. Hardin, the University adopted a six year 547.5 million improvement schedule and a 3525.4 million operating budget. To strengthen the physical science depart- ments, a portion ofthe assets provided money to furnish Behlen Hall with new laboratory equipment. Serving on the Board of the American Council on Education and as a trustee of the Rockefeller Founda- tion, Dr. Hardin improved out-of-state publicity. On campus the Chancellor supervised the recognition of two more instructors through Regents Professorships. Executive leadership encouraged the growth of the University assistance fund to off-set the anticipated rise in student educational costs.
