steps to success Funded by the Luckyday Foundation, the Steps to Success (STS) Program began in May 2001 at the University of Mississippi. Housed in the Academic Support Center, the program is designed to dramatically increase retention among under-represented populations by fostering academic success and personal achievement within an enriched living and learning community. The program emphasizes academic performance and college-life skills during freshman year, but it also serves as a support network throughout participants ' undergraduate careers. STS participants begin their college careers early by adhering to a rigorous academic schedule that encompasses attending nightly study halls and earning seven credit hours during second summer session. In the fall and spring, students live together in assigned residence halls, which are essentially " learning communities " designed to promote academic success by providing an environment conducive to personal wellness and growth. In addition to community service projects, STS Super Week, Career Week and the annual Brain Bowl are some of the social activities included in this year ' s agenda to enhance the STS community experience.
