the daily mississippian by Crystel Cannon The Daily Mississippian, which has been published since 1911, is the only college daily newspaper in the state. It serves both the Ole Miss and Oxford areas with a circulation of 14.000. Located in Farley Hall as a part of the S. Gale Denley Student Media Center, the DM is run entirely by students. In addition to a daily dose of campus, local and national news, the DM also provides the community with sports, art, entertainment and a horoscope. The DM ' s editorial staff works hard to get the news to the community, often arriving to work around 4 p.m. and leaving as late as 3 or 4 in the morning. The DM ' s advertising staff also works diligently, earning much of the revenue the paper needs in order to be published daily. The Daily Mississippian is also available online, and it has become the most visited page of the Ole Miss website. While the DM staff has difficulty balancing both work and classes, they believe their work is well worth it. Editor-in-Chief Laura Houston said, " I love how the efforts of so many different people can come together to make such an exceptional product that comes out day after day. " While making lifelong friendships and learning good work ethic, staff members also gain the valuable work experience that many newspapers and magazines love when it comes time for internships and job applications. Ryan Upshaw, Mary-Grace Haynes. by Robin Freeman Over the past few years of working on the Ole Miss, I have come to learn many things. I have learned what a deadline means, what all-nighters are and what it means to work as a team. The pressure that comes with producing a 416-page book that personifies such a diverse campus is an experience like none other. I have spent a year as head photographer, and I spent this year as the business manager. No matter what my job has been, I knew that I would be spending time writing copy, editing and assisting in layouts. This book is proof of staff ' s dedication and willingness to pitch in and help out no matter what the project. I have seen this book go from good to extraordinary. In Farley Hall, a group of 20 unique individuals came together to produce The Ole Miss. Despite deadlines, inconvenient times and a battle over choosing a theme, this book will remain a constant reminder of a year of our college experience. The night before the deadlines, the office was a buzz of activity full of last minute decisions and phone calls. No matter what came along, the staff could pull it together. This year The Ole Miss staff spent long nights, endless weekends and every free moment putting together a book that would identify with students from every walk of life. The 2004 Ole Miss wanted to capture students being themselves, being creative, being Ole Miss. _ a. Z w m Hb O S % k i X 5 h.
