STUDEIVT PROGRAMMIIVG BOARD The L!niversity of Mississippi Student Programming Board is the major programming body of the University. The Board is composed of two elected officers, a Board of Directors, and numerous committee members. There are eight committees to serve on, with membersliip ranging from twenty to fifty members on each committee. The main goal of the Student Programming Board is to provide the highest quality activities and entertainment at the lowest cost to the students of Ole Miss. The SPB is a great way to get involved with campus activities and their production. Committee member selection is done by an application process. Any Ole Miss student is eligible and encouraged to apply. Members are selected each semester, and interested students should inquire at the Student Programming Board office in the Ole Miss Union. Committees include special interest areas in promotion, trips and tours. SPB also sponsors pageants including Parade of Beauties and the Miss University Scholarship Pageant, a preliminary to the Miss Mississippi Pageant. SPB sponsors Homecoming Week, Red and Blue Week, and College Quiz Bowl through the Multi-Day Events Committee and the Christmas Crafts Fair, Funflicks, and other h novelty entertainment through the Single-Day Events Committee. Diversity Programming is also a part of SPB programming with events such as Diversity Week and special interest programs for activities such as Black History Month and Aids Awareness. Concerts, comedians, and the production of their shows are covered by the Concert Committee and the Pro- duction Committee. Recent acts have showcased B.B. king. Widespread Panic, Chris Rock, Carrot Top, and The AUman Brothers Band. There are many advantages to being a member of SPB. it is a great way to make new friends and the students work with a wide variety of people. As a member you have a voice in campus activities while gaining valuable experience. SPB works with several departments and other organizations on campus.
