1 992 Lady Rebel Track Lady Rebels have Best Year in its History In 1992, the Lady Rebel track pro- gram turned in their best South- eastern Conference record in the program ' s seven year history. The women set seven school records during the indoor season and nine more in the outdoor com- petition. They scored in 10 events at the SEC Championships and had four provisional qualifiers. The Lady Rebs ' captain and emo- tional leader, Betty Collins, fin- ished her collegiate running career in grand style. After returning from a serious knee injury for her senior outdoor campaign, Collins steadily improved and by the outdoor sea- son had shattered the school record in the 100 hurdles and become an NCAA provisional qualifier. Other leadership was provided by juniors Tiwanda Vance and Stacy Hudson. Vance finished fifth in the SEC 800 during the outdoor season and Hudson became the first Lady Rebel to qualify for the NCAA Out- doors in an individual event by meeting the provisional standard of the 400 hurdles. Both Hudson and Vance participat- ed on the highly successful 1600 relay team, which scored in both the indoor and outdoor conference championships, was a provisional NCAA qualifier and set a school record time of 3:36.22. Running with them on the mile relay were Eamestine Slocum and freshman sensation Angela Clay. Clay set a school record in the 400 as she posted the fastest freshmen time of any NCAA Division I per- former at the end of the season and scored in the conference. She added more points to the Rebel cause at the SEC Champiosnhips by scoring in a third event, the 400 relay, where she once again teamed with Hudson and Slocum along with sophomore Kim Ingram. Freshmen Natasha Poularikas was another multiple scorer and record breaker. She scored fifth in the in- door pentathlon and posted points in both the high jump and heptathlon in outdoor competition, setting school records in both out- door events and creating the wom- en ' s multi-event records. " Our women had the finest team Ole Miss has ever had, " Walker said. " We ' ve had a true record- setting season. " Marquis Sledge UM Sports Information Lady Rebel Highlights 188 SPORTS
