It was through his incessant efforts and his sincere devotion to the University, that it now holds its position among the leading schools. DAVID HORACE BISHOP, M.A., LL.D. Vice-Chancellor David H. Bishop has served the L'niversity as Vice-Chancellor for many years. In the absence of the Chancellor, Dr. Bishop becomes the oflicial head of the institution. He is also the head of the English Department of the University and under his direction this division of the curriculum has become one of the outstanding units of the courses of study. G-Mainz SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING ANDREW B. HARGIS, B.E., C.E. Dean Some courses in engineering were first offered at the University as early as 1872, but it Was not until 1900 that the School of Engineering was organ- ized. As now organized, the school offers courses in three branches of en- gineering, namely, Civil, Chemical, and General Engineering. These courses are so arranged that a professional degree in any of the branches may be ob- tained by the student doing satisfactory Work. THE GRADUATE SCHOOL ALEXANDER L. BONDURANI, A.M., L1TT.D., LL.D. Dean The Graduate School of the University offers courses to those students hav- ing graduated from the University or from any other institution of recog- nized standing. Scholarships and student assistantships are offered to de- serving graduate students. In 1928 the State Legislature appropriated a liberal sum toward the construction of a Graduate School building which is surpassed by none. DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC LAURA T. MARTIN, B.A., B.MUs. , Director The Department of lNiIusic of the University of Mississippi offers courses to those students who are candidates for the Bachelor of Miisic degree, as well as offering courses that are accepted in the College of Liberal Arts. This division of the University was founded in I930 and was authorized in 1934. ESTELLA G. HEFLEY, B.A., lVI.A. Dean of Women It is the duty of the Dean of Women to have control of the conduct of the women students attending the University of Nlississippi.
