SWIMMING Handicapped by ineligibility and inadequate facilities for prac- tice, due to the small size of the Y. M. C. A. tank which the team was forced to use, Michigan, under the tutorage of Coach Brown, won two of the four dual meets in which she participated and placed sixth in the Conference meet held in Patten Gymnasium, Evanston, Illinois. The completion of the Union tank coupled with the fact that the Freshman team contains a large number of men of unusual ability, make prospects for the future much brighter than they were in Michigan ' s initial year of aquatic sports. 1923 HOCKEY TEAM Michigan ' s puck chasers were successful in winning but four of the eleven contests in which they participated. Ineligibility fol- lowing the semester examinations played havoc with the rather Impressive record of one defeat and three wins in the first four games of the season. Captain MacDuff and " Eddie " Kahn were the stars of the team, forcing the play in every battle. Both are fast, deceptive skaters and handle the puck in good style. The work of Henderson at center was an important factor in the team play of Michigan. Comb at goal thwarted many shots at the Wolverine harbor during the season and was largely responsible for the low scores made by the opponents. 1922 GOLF TEAM That Michigan in her first year of competition in Conference golf should win four of the five Conference matches played, and place second in the Western Conference Golf meet played on the Midlothian Country Club course of Chicago, speaks well for her prowess in this branch of sport. Sweaters were awarded to the following men: Captain Winters, Loeb, Smith, Slaughter and Steketee. Steketee and Loeb are the only letter men lost to the team by graduation. Every member of the team played consistent golf throughout the season. The spectacular driving of Captain Winters being especially note-worthv. . CAPTAIN JOHN M. WINTERS, JR.
