GRADUATE STUDENTS Thirteen students from the U.S. and Canada, seven of them law teachers already, are in the graduate program for the LL.M. A number of these will ultimately take the S.J.D, degree. They are involved in specialized research projects of their own or attached to the Legislative Research Center. The LL.M. and S.J.D, programs are designed expressly for candidates intending to take up a teaching career, but a terminal LL.M. is also offered for those who wish to acquire a specialization for their practice. 'lwenty-nine graduate students from abroad are also in residence. Eleven of them are from Asia, thirteen from Europe, mainly Germany, three from Africa, and two from Australia. The Asian students include four from Japan, three from Thailand, two from the Ryukyu Islands, and four from the Phillipines. European countries represented are Germany, England, Italy, Switzerland, and Norway. African students are from Egypt and the Sudan. Many Latin Americans have attended the Law School in the past, working mainly under the direction of Professor Yntema. Ford Foundation funds support some of the students, their governments others, and some rely on other grants or private means to finance their studies. Those from civil law areas working towards the Master of Com- parative Laws degree devote a large portion of their time to American legal institutions. Those from common law nations may choose to work, instead, for the LL.M. They will put their training to use in teaching, government service, or in a few cases, private practice. Olin L. Consistent with this growth, Michigan's Chapter, Kent Inn, boasts 160 mem- bers, the largest fraternity on campus. The purpose of Phi Delta Phi is to provide its members with a needed social outlet from their law school endeavors. In furtherance of that purpose, Phid provides a highly-regarded social program. Speci- fically this program includes: mixers Q T.G.'s J with the cream of the feminine undergraduate society, Happy Hour every Friday night-whichwe generally try to bring to a halt some time before sunrise on Satur- dayg and Saturday night holocausts complete with band. Less frequent occasions include: Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Spring Vacation Parties, the Champagne Partyg the semi-annual Phid-Nu Sig boutg and any other excuse for a party which may germinate in the restive Phid minds. In addition, the Phid lounge, complete with juke box and appropriate liquid refreshments, is open twenty-four hours a day for members and guests. Turning to athletics, the phid A. C. subsidizes and fields feared teams in all major intramural sports, including football, basketball and baseball, etc. Although suffering occasional setbacks, Phid has proved a perenial powerhouse in intramurals-be it on the gridiron, hardwood court, or diamond. Throughout the Michigan Campus, the words Phi Delta Phi have become synonomous with the well rounded law student-a person both academically and socially sound. Thus we point with understandable pride to the quality of the men who call themselves Phids . PHI DELTA PHI
