Terrence L. Croft, Presiding Judge THE CASE CLUBS The freshman's first introduction to the courtroom most likely occurs when he prepares and argues a Case Club appellate brief. This activity is voluntary but at the same time it offers important experience not available in the classroom-and consequently most freshmen participate. This year 370 joined the Case Clubs. Participants prepare one appellate brief from an authentic trial record each term and make their arguments before a court of upperclass judges. Each counsel's work is graded on the quality of his research, analysis of issues, and oral and written presentation. During the first term, the Clubs instruct members in the techniques of legal research, brief writing and oral argument to prepare them for the program. Each of the sixteen clubs is headed by a senior judge with a junior clerk assisting him. The most successful ad- vocates at the year's end are chosen for advancement into the Campbell Competition. From among those selected for Campbell come the junior clerks for the following year. fleft to righrj SEATED: B. Croft, T. Croft, J. Gates. STANDING: T. Wittlinger, C. Barr, F. Pollock, D.
