David Ebel, Editor-in-Chief MICHIGAN LAW REVIEW In 1902 the MICHIGAN LAW REVIEW first appeared, in re- sponse to what the editors, at that time faculty members, felt was the need of a law journal to be conducted under the auspices of the Department of Law of the University of Michigan. It was intended that the journal fbel practical without usurping the functions of the text book or the digest, and scholarly without becoming so academic in its character as to be out of touch with the needs and aims of the lawyer of today. It will not be local in its character or be confined to the discussion of law-school problems. These goals represented a successful formula, so much so that the REVIEW, still presenting the four departments into which the first edition divided itself, has become an indispensable adjunct to law libraries and practice in all states and in many foreign countries. This year Editor-in-Chief David Ebel departed from tradition to the extent of dressing the REVEIW in an attractive new format. Ebel heads thirty-one senior editors who are assisted by about sixty junior candidates, thirty of whom will themselves become editors next year. Those juniors who have accumulated at least a 3.1 average become eligible to enter the demanding competition. The REVIEW not only serves the profession but also provides valu- able training in legal research, analysis and writing for its staff. EDITORIAL BOARD Editor-in-chief DAVID M. BARRISTERS SOCIETY John H. Blish ....... ..... L ord Chancellor C. Douglas Kranwinkle .... Master of the Rolls Anthony J. Lynch. . Chancellor of the Exchequer Helinan Brook .................... Bailiff John Blish, Chancellor An honorary which emphasizes diversity and scholarship, and takes itself with whimsical levity, Barristers has been doing good turns since 1904. Sometime in the 20's the group originated its annual Grease Ball. There is a scholarship awarded each year to a deserving student, and the University enjoys the Barristers' services as ushers at Centennial Celebra- tions. Occasionally the Society decides to publish an issue of the RAW REVIEW, always oversubscribed. The twenty-five members of the Barristers gather bi-weekly, if it can be arranged, in order to further their vari- gated designs. Each spring ten jimiors are initiated and these tap fifteen classmates the following fall. Once service is paid its due, Barristers unabashedly promotes conviviality, though it always maintains a decorum befitting a body so venerable. fleft to rightj FIRST ROW: T. Croft, G. Schoonmaker, H.
