Kappa Delta took hrst place in the games competition, VENOUS other awards such as t'rnost spur- Ited were given out. The Derby Dance held at the Phoenix Hotel Ballroom was very popular. At this time the band met to learn the fundamentals of UK's marching styles, which was especialty important for incoming freshman. The musm and marching drills for the first two games were also practiced during the week. The hectic period started at 8:30 in the morning and ended at 9:00 pm At the end of football season, time was spent developing four separate bands from the 250 members of the marching hand There were three concert bands with approximately 80425 members, and the basketball pep band with 110 rotating members. The three concert bands included the Wind ensemble which consisted of the advanced members, the symphonic band, and the concert band for non- majors. Recruiting was very important to Harry Clarke, UK Band director. It consumed 50 percent of his time. He traveled to various high schools trying to interest students in UK as the college to attend and then promoting the idea of playing in the band. Band members felt the highlight of the year was the two regionally televised football games. we

It was chartered to be of service and benefltsto all alumni and the universrty. The pnhcies and programs of the Association were , determtned by volunteer alumnt who serve on the Association's Board of Directors. The Board was basically composed of elected repesentatives trom geographlc CllS- trlcts 0f the state and nation who served three year terms. The otticers at the Assoctatton - president, vice-presideht. secretary and trea- surer ; were elected by the Board, Wthh met several times a year and conducted an annual workshop in the summer. Expenses incurred In attending all meetings were borne by the representatives. The Kentucky Alumnus, the only magazine of the Association, was sent to the home of member-alumni tour times a year. Itcontained features about the univerSlty, Association pro- grams, news capsules about former students. action on the campus and the current sports picture. Open Door, the alumni newspaper, was also published and mailed tour times a year, but to all alumni. It contalned timely university news and current informatton on unwersity programs. Although the onwerstty and the number of alumni have growntremendouslystnce1889, the Alumnt Assomatton Sllll retained a warm relationship with all alumnr through personal correspondence drrect mail. club meetings and specral alumni luncttons. The Helen G Klng Alumni House, located at the corner at Rose Street and Euclid Avenue, was the campus home for all UK alumni. Funds to construct and tomtsh the building were given by members of the Alumni Century Club who each gave $500 or more. Dedicated in 1963, the house was a gathering place for altrhmr and was used for conferences, exhiblts and soctal tunebons.
