Duke Ellington and arlmirirrs, Before a backdrop fantasy of Santa Claus, reincleers and snow- men, swirling couples danced to the music of Duke Ellington and his orchestra. The theme for the first all-university semi-formal dance at the Iowa Union was Winter Fantasy. In one corner of the main lounge was a mam- moth Christmas tree while above hung snowHakes and snowbaHs In this Christmas atmosphere a skit was presented during inter- mission by Delta Delta Delta and Kappa Kappa Gannna,sodalso- rorities, and Delta Tau Delta and Sigma Alpha Epsilon, social fra- ternities. Intermission events in- cluded a tea and the presentanon of a cake to Duke Ellington. com- memorating the 25th anniversary of his orchestra. In front of a backdrop of pledge pins, Gordon Dooley and his or- chestra provided the music for the annual Interfraternity Pledge Prom held at the Iowa Memorial Union February 28. Guests of the dance were members of the faculty, administration, and social fraternity housemothers. During intermission the lnterfraternity Pledge queen, Barbara Baker, and her court xvcre presented. Pier attendants were Ianet Henderson. Sue McBride, Leah Thorpe, and Karen Peterson.
