N 7 ' , 'lr ,ft-ff. a From the coach s standpoint the 1977 78 football season was a dlsap pomtment The 6 3 1 record was a poor indicator of the type of talent that was on the roster Despite the disappointing record the season did hold many high points Coach Bless recorded his first victory over cross town rivals the Butler Bulldogs for the Indy Top Dog trophy 1n a game that was also the Hounds homecoming Seniors Karl Beer a tight end and John Peters a linebacker were named All Americans for their achievements on the playing field and in the classroom Tom Geffert, and Don Pittman, who were also co-captains for the year, along with Dave Sawrie, John Peters, Doug Clark, Dave Wollman, and Tim Lanie were selected to the All-Indiana Collegiate Conference roster. In a dinner for the fall sports, Don Pittman was voted by his team - Most Valuable Defensive Lineman, Tom Geffert was voted Most Valu- able Offensive Lineman, Most Valuable Defensive Back was Dave Saw- rie, Most Valuable Offensive Back and Most Valuable Player was Darrell Duddy Reeves. The Kelso Reid Mental Attitude Award went to Steve Sark and Jett Kirkman. The team Captains for next year were also announced at the dinner. They were, offensive captains Doug Clark and Darrell Reeves and defensive captain Dave Wollman. FOOTBALL I7
