IN THE Twenty minute periods, programs signed, unfamiliar classrooms found-thus the Fall i962 semester began at University High School. This traditional minimum day was a day of readjustment and first-cpinion form- ing for both teachers and students. Although Uni stu- dents were at the start of a new semester, they found themselves in the middle of several construction proiects. Along with the girls' gym still in the process of being enlarged and the new music building still cement fcunda- tions and wooden supports, was the auditorium remain- ing barren, awaiting installation of new seats. School spirit rebounded from a summer vacation lapse as the Varsity football team fooled the statisticians by winning their first games. Uni literally packed the stands as arribas cheered the team to success, and the vic- tory banner hung in the upper patio time and again. Uni was again Victory High as the Varsity basketball team won game after game, and terminated the season in the City Playoffs. Success came once more for Uni as the Varsity cross country team's harriers broke track records on the sloping U.C.L.A. course. The Uni Warriors showed strong enthusiasm as they supported the semester's activities. This semeter, once again, small cards printed with the Honor Spirit Code were passed out by the leadership class. Associated with Honor Spirit was a renewed drive for a clean campus. The Warriors expressed their appreciation for the work done by the P.T.A. by filling small brown envelopes with their contributions. The red feathers of the Community Chest were seen on Warriors as they contributed to this necessary drive. Tags bearing Because you can bring a can, made a prominent appearance cn Uni students as they shared the Christmas spirit with the not-so-fortu- nate. The musical interest and the gay colors of the Christ- mas assembly reminded Uni students of the meaning of the Holiday Season. To alleviate the seriousness of study at Uni, teachers and students presented the Fun Assem- bly, in which teachers characterized some student types at Uni. The Emerging Africa was a U.C.L.A. profes- sor's subject for a lecture given at the traditional Cali- fornia Scholarship Federation Invitational Assembly. U.C.L.A. came again to Uni, this time with blackboards to explain data processing at an assembly sponsored by the lVlath Club. The rituals of candidate presentation and installation were the beginning and end of busy weeks of campaigning that included a march around the campus, soap box speeches, and the handing out of cam- paign tags.
