Message from Dr. William A. Shields
The theme of this year's Caritas is a movie motif. This, it seems to me, is an appropriate format for a college
Because it is such a versatile medium, the cinema has the unique ability to catch the many moods of the human
spirit. It can elicit sadness and joy, humor and seriousness. It can take us on flights of fancy or give us doses of
Just as it is able to effect so many varied responses, the medium itself comes in an array of types, drama, com-
edy, documentary, short subject, avant garde, etc.
A college, a campus community, is composed of a myriadpersonalities, perspectives, motivations, dreams and
ambitions. It is a kaleidoscope of creativity- and knowledge, of science and art, of form and substance. Therefore,
a movie motif seems an effective means of portraying the many aspects of college life.
The Caritas staff has done an outstanding job of capturing this multifaceted subject.

The Era QftheA rgos
The ancient ones tell ofa time long ago when the era of the Argos began. The year was 1968 AD..
and the ancient ones say that a drastic change began to occur here in the land ofthe College of Great
Falls. The College became larger, and its populace began to feel a deep sense of unity characteristic
ofthe early years ofa nation. The elders of the land ofthe College decided to encourage these feel-
ings of allegiance by forming a group of warriors known as the might Argos who would carry the
banner ofthe college to many distant lands.
Many ofthe college's finest citizens donned the Argonaut uniforms. They travelled far and wide
in search ofthe treasures of competition and victory. They also searched for the golden sheepskin
which they discovered at the end of many years of hard work. Those whojoined the ranks ofthe
Argos wore their uniforms with pride and honor. The Argos were often victorious. and their first
year brought them the ultimate victory They also occasionally lost, but they always showed great
spirit and obeyed the code of sportsmanlike conduct. The Argos formed a tradition which was con-
tinued for many years.
