ADMINISTRATICDN AND FACULTY gsfff ', V ,Q IZQJ ,J , Z, 1 ' 1' f fi ocf ' ,A 5 H H ii 'we-153:10-Il JR. l 7 i PRECEDING even the treshmen ot Freshman Week,,taculty members pre- pare the ground, lay out schedules, plan the routine, provide tor teeding Xa hous- ing, arrange tor registration. Each class must harmonize with other classes within the department, each department must dovetail with every other, the three col- leges must be properly integrated. Fac- ulty Xr administration spend weary weeks upon these problems tar in advance ot returning student hordes. l932-I933 saw three tormerly unrelated tac- ulties working as one in what had become by reorganization the common cause. Faculties ot Franklin College, Agricultural College 84 Education College joined torces, worked side by side just as they are pictured tor the tirst time in I933 PANDORA. Democratic spirit toward the student body has tor years marked Georgia's taculty. All the South knows ot its democracy 84 intormal- ity, treely admits it is never surpassed, rarely equalled. Cynical observers suggested intormality had led to triendship, friendship had led to sym- pathy, sympathy had prevented professors .N fi k.' . driving students as disciples ot the old school telt students should be driven. lvlooted became the question when the quar- ter system, tirst tried in '32-'33 saved protes- sors the trouble, drove students 'til they wailed under its lash. Faculty itselt had problems ot its own when depression's bite slashed salaries, reduced personnel, made harried protessors carry greater teaching loads at lessened salaries. True to tradition, they bore up under in- creased burdens, gave their best to the in- stitution, aided reorganization. More than ever deserving appreciation, their loyalty was not overlooked, earned them increased re- spect trom thinking students. .23.

Snelling to the Chancellorship of the entire University System and integration ofthe three Athens units during the spring 1932 created the question of how these units should be controlled. This gave rise to a sort of administrative committee that was to act in the absence of Chancellor Snelling. This committee was composed of S. V. Sanford, President of Franklin College: Andrew lvl. Soule, President of the College of Agricultureg and Jere 111. Pound, President of the College of Education. Sanford was to exercise final authority on the ground that Franklin College was the oldest of the three. In this manner most of the 1932-1933 session was conducted. The spring of 1933 saw the Board of Regents continue their reorganization and integration. Sanford was made President of the entire University System in Athens, Other administrative divisions were to be in charge of Deans responsible to the President. An effort has been made to explain the stages of the transition in the School Begins and During The Year sections of 1933 PANDORA.
