foreword THE 1961 SEMINOLE is clearly different from the traditional yearbook, for within this book there lies a new concept. Thisbook has more than just an unusual rep- resentation of a huge university, or large amounts of pictures arranged in a pat- tern that is pleasing to the eye. The 1961 Seminole is a book with a purpose, and that purpose is to place before your eyes a non-materialistic existence the personality of the University of Florida. This yearbook will depict the personality and individuality that exists within the entire mass of students, administration, faculty, buildings, lawns and even shrubbery that are a part of the University of Florida. This personality is proud, familiar, defiant, non-exhaustive, and outstanding. The great expense involved in the production of the Seminole, both in time and energy, will show not only to its students, but to all who open its pages, the scope of a magnificent school. It will give to all a glimpse of the unlimited con- tributions that the University has made to this state and to the nation. Through the educational processes of the University, giving knowledge to thousands of individuals for over a century, this University has prove n itself worthy of a personality. The story of this personality is small and large, exciting and relaxing, current and perpetual. The 1961 Seminole was created to exhibit that personality.
