As usual, SAE was actively engaged in various Campus-wide organizations and functions. Mother Carry, President of the Student Body, led the political field for the Chapter. Dognose Mclntyre was a juror on the Honor Court, while Joe Coppedge and Brother Knauer held seats on the Executive Council. J. D, Miller served as President of Alpha Kappa Psi, national business fraternity, and Jack Murray was Secretary of Tau Kappa Alpha, national forensics honorary. Carry and J. I-I. Williams were honored by being Chosen for the Hall of Fame, In athletics SAE led in both football and basketball, Bill Carry wcn the coveted Baird Award for outstanding athletic achievement, this being the second consecutive year that an SAE has won the award. On the basketball court, Bird Dog Carlton led the varsity team as high scorer, and Louis Fueyo was fourth scorer. Dick Doeschler kept SAE on top of the social ladder with three memorable week-ends. The famous Military Ball Revue was shifted to Fall Frolics because of the uncertainty of the Ball, but even there it held the place it always had as being one of the best shows put on by a fraternity. The last social affair cf the year was appropriately called the Last Blast, for it marked the end af social activity for the duration.

Social Chairman John Conway led the fraternity in a series of very successful social events. The first of these was a dance in honor of the new pledges, At the Georgia-Florida Trackmeet in November we joined with the Georgia chapter in an open dance at the Jacksonville Women's Club. February was featured by the largest of all the chapter's social functions-the Sweetheart Dance. Sigma Chis crowned their first sweetheart, Miss Biddy Grant, of Jacksonville. Departures of brothers to the armed services were frequently marked by parties, which usually necessitated a delivery from the local breweries. During the year thirty members left the chapter to enter every branch of the armed forces. Sigma Chi was able to claim two presidents of Florida Blue Key, an honor that seldom comes to any organization in one year, as Randolph Matheny replaced Peyton Jordan upon the latter's graduation. Freddie Miller, Duncan McKee, and Leo Ryan set a standard of scholarship which should be a goal for any student. Behind the Florida Players, on and off the stage, were members Tom Eisle, Rodney King, Wayne Scott, and Vernon Weaver. In the football limelight was quarterback Percy Entzminger, while Gator Cagers were aided by Jack Farrell and Tommy Dixon.
