These eighto'clock classes were always the worst. They were the reason why Florida students were able to get only ten hours of sleep in- stead of the prescribed twelve. They were the reason we had to havclights in the classrooms during January. But in spite of this handi- cap to an acceptable curri- culum falong with the Gen- eral College's C-l, C-2, C-5, C-7, C-l0, C-41, and Cz-60931, the University draws boys from the city, the farm and the shipyards. They come from far and near . . . from Georgia and Alabama, from Peru and Bolivia. They come seeking a college education. Inside the gates, they proceed to acquire all that goes into the making of a college man. Most times there are fraternities, clubs, and politics, but always there are classes . . . and eight o'clocks. The C's finished, divisions occur. Some go into Busi- ness Administration and learn haw to use an adding machine. Others study Ag to discover that clay is red. Still others resign them- selves to the Law College and have to wear ties. Four years gone, or five, or six, or ten, and the evolu- tion comes. The college graduate emerges with a chain full of keys lrepre- senting Bacchus, White Friars, the Cavaliers, and other honorary organiza- tionsl, two pair of socks he didn't pay for, a degree, and most important, the knowl- edge that he made at least half of his eight o'clocks during the senior year. lasses
