Florida's General College is a novel educational experiment. To corry out the principle of letting the students know something about everything before they Start leornmg everything obout something, six comprehensive courses cover every imaginable item in their porticulor fields Each comprehensive is designated by the letter C , followed by an identification number C-l covers the sociol world or man's relationships with other men. C-2 deals with the physical world or mon's struggle with his environment. C-3 is o tool subject, taking m the techniques of reading, spooking and writing, C-4 is another tool subject divided into two one-semester ports, the first scrutinizing man and hts thinking ond the second a course in gcncrol mathematics, C-5 embroces the humonities and attempts to give students on appreciation of art, C-6 covers man end the biologicol world to teoch students obout their ond other creature's inner workings Only the final examinations count in these comprehensive courses, ond grodes ore given accordingly Examinations arc groded olcctncolly, with results being figured on o curve, thus pitting the students against one onother on a competitive basis MAN AND THE PHYSICAL WORLD THE HUMANITIES -24-
