SUFFERING HEAVILY from scholastic and armed service losses, the Husky tanksters did not achieve a banner season. Swimming against veteran combines, the small but scrappy Blue and White squad made a very good showing nevertheless. Opening against Mass State, the team emerged on the short side of a 42-24 score. The U-Conns won the 300 yard medley and Spellman took a first in the 200 yard breast stroke. Hitting a tough stretch, the team dropped its next three' meets to Springfield, M.I.T. and Wesleyan. Pierce Brundage took top honors in his event, the 150 back- stroke, in all three meets. Closing the season against Brooklyn, the team dropped a very fast but very close meet. The 400 yard relay was the most tightly contested event of the day, but the Husky quartet of Carter, Carlson, Christianson and Hyde splashed and churned their way to first honors. Considering the material available, it took a lot of hard work on the part of Coach Fischer to build a starting team. At the post season banquet, Ernie Eschert was named new captain, to succeed Brundage and Hyde. 16
