l Uetcome J i ome CDUCATOR, lawyer and President of the University of Colorado, Robert L. Stearns is one of the West ' s foremost and outstanding personalities. But to most of us he Is best known for his friendly personal qualities, his devotion to his country, and above all for the contributions which he has made to this university. Taking a leave of absence in 1943, Dr. Stearns was civilian chief of the Operation Analysis Division of the Twentieth Army Air Force. This unit, equipped with the B-29 Superfortress, successfully bombed the Japanese in long-range missions and helped bring about their ultimate defeat, hie received the certificate of Meritorious Service from General H. H. Arnold, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon from General MacArthur, and has been commended by many other officials for his initiative, ability, and devotion to duty. We welcomed him back this fall, claiming him as our Admin- istrator once again, only to realize that his talents are also In demand In those fields which deal with world affairs. As a result, he has made trips to England and Washington D. C, yet he manages to cope successfully with the problems of an ever-expanding University. To such a truly remarkable man we extend a very sincere and warm Welcome hlome. 30
