Its most important contribu- tion to the school was a plan by which the club tried to increase attendance and school spirit at basketball games. An engraved plaque was given to the school club that had the largest percentage of its members at the basketball contests. This plan will also be in effect during football games next fall. Although the club is comparatively new it took an important part in the Missouri State Hi-Y Club Congress at St. Charles. A group of boys from the U. City organization demonstrated the induction ceremony for new members. Clubs from all over the state some of which have been organived for many' years were at the Congress Our club yy as greatly honored vyhen it was asked to give this impressive ceremony Among its other activities the Hi Y Club has donated food and clothing to the poor has had several speakers and lecturers at its meetings and has sponsored a dance to which the whole school was invited Membership in this club is open to all who wish to Join Of course there are some restrictions just as are imposed by other school clubs The club is now yn ell organized and is ready to embark on an eyen more extensive program next year Jerry Stanford who has worked with Hi Y groups throughout the city IS the sponsor of this group He has worked vs 1th the U City Club and built it up until it is noyy a successful and productiye organization P , , v 1 1 1 1 y 1 v 1 r 1 ' 1 ' 1 P ' A 1 1 r. , . Kent Farley. The nucleus of the team is built around eight lettermen. Hubert Deutsch, a three-year veteran, is the senior pitcher with Bob Roth, also a letterman, filling the other starting berth. Bill Brewer. a letterman, holds down the catching position. The other lettermen are: Bill Knott, first base: Doug Strauss, shortstop: Ed Jenkins, third base: and George Ballance, outfield. Several practice games with City League teams earlier in the season put the Indians in condition for the mythical County League Championship race. Early results show the team with five victories in six starts. This year's problem has been to find outfielders who could hit. Although there are no sluggers on the squad, Brewer, Knott and Strauss have shown well at the plate The entire squad has at times become erratic fielders this has been costly sometimes resulting in turning victory into defeat There has seemingly been a first inning Jinx for errors The team settling down afterwards and playing good baseball The entire squad has however shown the spirit to win the willingness to correct mistakes and is undoubtedly a credit to the sport in these respects MW Baseball Roufa fuanagerl Slerncckr Wolfson Funk les S!
