tEXT bOOKS TEXT INTERVIEW WITH mELISSA pERRY, SOPHOMORE fROM hAMBURG, AR bY kRISTINA wATKINS Q: What problems did you encounter when buying textbooks this year? A: The University Bookstore in the Union didn’t order enough copies of required books for the students’ needs. I went into the store and requested for them to order more books for my geology class because they didn’t have any. They said they would order some more, but they only ordered five more. Then ran out again before I could go back to the book¬ store to buy it. It was very frustrating. The book situation was awful this year. I didn’t get the book until at least the second week of class. I even tried to get the book before classes even started. I tried the Dickson Street Book Exchange too, but they didn’t have the right edition. Also, the teachers had some problems communicating with the bookstore as far as what edition they were teaching out of. I ended up with the wrong edition of a book in my English class. The teachers didn’t let the bookstore know early enough which books they were teaching out of because the teacher used a different edition than what the students were told to buy. Q: About how much did all your books cost you this semester? A: About $370. I always see signs at the University Bookstore advertising that they have the lowes prices. Well, that’s not true because I went to the Dickson Street Book Exchange and found books anywhere from two to 15 dollars cheaper than prices at the University Bookstore. So, I don’t know how they can claim that. Q: When did you try to buy your textbooks? A: I tried to buy my books before classes even started. I ended up getting most of them before classes started. I did try to preorder my books but it ended up being a hassle because I got a lot of the wrong editions of books. I would recommend if you’re a freshman to preorder your textbooks because it was a lot easier my freshman year not having to go look for the books on the shelves. Also, if you want used books I would recommend preordering them because the bookstore is less likely to run out.
