FRENCH CLUB The Circle Francais, which was formed in the fall of 1978 with 10 charter members, quickly grew to a membership of 45. During the year, the club hosted a wine and cheese par- ty for members and their guests with proceeds from bake sales and candy sales. Jimmy Amerson, Charles Walthall. GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY The UAM Geological Society was started in 1973 by Dr. Rene’ DeHon and the earth sci- ence majors and minors. In 1975 it became inactive and remained so until 1977 when it was re-established. During the past two years, the organization has raised money to sponsor field trips to the Grand Canyon, Big Bend in Texas, the Florida Keys, and for trips within the state. Organizations 125

Faver, Gib King, Danny Reynolds, Jeff Zitsch, KNIGHTS During the past seventeen years the Knights. have per- formed enumerable services to UAM. Formed in April of 1962 by Larry Smith for the purpose of serving the needs of the in- stitution and providing organi- Zational fellowship, the Knights have enjoyed a colorful past. The Cannon Honor Guard was Created in the fall of 1962 to add spirit to the football games. Since that beginning, the Cannon Guard and ‘‘ole smokey’’ have not missed a UAM football game. Knights serve as ushers at the UAM Fine Arts Center and co-sponsor the Red Cross Bloodmobile visits on campus. KOINONIA Koinonia was established in 1973 on the UAM campus to promote spiritual and moral growth of individual students, provide Christian fellowship, and spread the Gospel of Christ both on the campus and in the community. The Church of Christ student organization has provided students of all faiths the opportunity to meet week- ly for a period of devotion in which the Bible is discussed. The group also assists the local congregation of the Church of Christ with various activities.
