Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity rose as a result of friendships made by 17 men while in the service of their country during World War | in France. The fra- ternity grew from one chapter, with seventeen members in 1920, to a national organiza- tion with 94 chapters and five colonies. UAM’s Upsilon chapter was colonized and later chartered on December 17, 1938. It has grown to an organization with approximately 50 active mem- bers and over 750 alumni. WHITE ROSE SISTERS The Sisters of the White Rose, a women’s auxiliary, was chartered the spring semester of 1975 by Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity with eighteen mem- bers. The group has grown to a membership of 30. Currently, 17 girls are active. White Rose Sisters are the nationally recognized sister or- ganization to Sigma Tau Gam- ma fraternity, although mem- bership requirements and du- ties differ from campus to cam- pus.
