“Associated Students of Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Mechanics Club The Associated Students of Agricultural Engineering & Agricultural Mechanics Club was a professional organiza- tion dedicated to the promotion of interaction between agri- culture students and interaction between students and fac- ulty. It strove to get students to know faculty members on an informal basis through happy hours, hikes, ice skating trips, picnics, and movies. This was the second year that the ASAE had been recog- nized by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers as a student branch of their organization. The major project in 1985 for ASAE was a farm show on the mall in honor of the UA ' s Centennial. The idea was to expose students to the world of agriculture by displaying equipment from the past and present. For Spring Fling the club created a peddle-powered tractor pull which was simi- lar to a full-sized tractor pull but totally man powered. Association for the Independence of the Disabled Awakening the general student body to the difficulties faced every day by the disabled people on campus was one of the goals of the Association for the Independence of the Disabled. The 1984 president, Debbie Henry, encouraged the associ- ation to also be active in the advocacy for rights of the dis- abled. DISABLED STUDENTS ' ASSOCIATION FRONT ROW: Bobby Rochelle, Shawn (dog). Association of Chinese Visiting Scholars and Students Briefly, Leonard Z. Woo, president, described the Associ- ation of Chinese Visiting Scholars and Students: " Our organization was founded four years ago when the first batch of Chinese visiting scholars came to the UA. Be- cause of the open-door policy of the Chinese government, more Chinese visiting scholars and graduate students are coming every year. Now we have about thirty scholars and thirty students in this university. With the aid of our Ameri- can friends, especially the members of the Tucson U.S. China Peoples Friendship Association, we help the new- comers settle down and get used to life and study in Amer- ica. In order to promote the friendship between Chinese and American people, we try to let our American friends know more about China, by, for example, showing Chinese movies about once a month.
