ADMINISTRATION cmd the Province and concerns itself with maintaining good public relations. Another of its duties is that of bestowing any honorary degrees it feels are appropriate. The Dean's Council conducts the day-to-day business of the University. As the functional Campus Administration, its duties are both disciplinary and executive. The Provost, Professor A. A. Ryan, serves as Secretary of the De-an's Council. The General Faculty Council, in coniunction with the indi- vidual faculty councils, arranges timetables, sets courses and examinations and recommends degrees, lt is the members of these last-mentioned bodies that come in closest contact with the student body and compose the largest segment of the Uni- versity government, tv' '5- :il s MRS. JUDGE L. Y. CAIRNS Chancellor UNIVERSITY The Board of Governors, the Senate, the Dean's Council and the General Faculty Council constitute the governing body of the University of Alberta. Each committee has its specific tasks and duities, the execution of which are necessary to keep the Uni- versity tunctioning smoothly. The Board of Governors, presided over by Dr. C. M. MacLeod is the main administrative body of the University. The Board, on the advice of President Johns, appoints deans and all other academic statt. As well, the Board is responsible for setting tees, providing tor the maintenance of present facilities and for the addition of new buildings. Each year the Board submits a report to the Lieutenant-Governor in Council which the Minister of Education presents to the Provincial Legislature. The Senate does not concern itself with the academic problems of University life. It is a liaison committee between the University Vice, President DR. H. S. ARMSTRONG DR. C. M.
